Social responsibility has always been at the heart of the Poseidon Athens Half Marathon.
Since the very first editions of the event, the ALMA Charity Run 1 & 2 km has been an integral part of our race programme, reflecting our commitment to supporting meaningful social initiatives and creating opportunities for everyone to participate in a shared cause.
Dedicated to ALMA – The Panhellenic Association of Adapted Activities, this special event supports an organization that has been empowering children, adolescents and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism for more than three decades through education, creative activities, supported living programmes and community participation.
Over the years, the ALMA Charity Run has become far more than a race.
It has evolved into a celebration of inclusion, compassion and human connection, bringing together families, children, schools, community groups, volunteers and supporters who wish to stand alongside ALMA and help raise awareness for a cause that touches countless lives.
All participation fees from the ALMA Charity Run 1 & 2 km are paid directly to ALMA, providing valuable support for the Association’s programmes and services.
Yet, the true impact of this initiative extends well beyond financial support.
Each year, the Poseidon Athens Half Marathon offers ALMA the opportunity to share its mission with thousands of runners, spectators, volunteers and visitors from Greece and around the world. Through this visibility, more people become aware of the importance of inclusion, equal opportunities and social participation for individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism.
As part of the 17th Poseidon Athens Half Marathon, participants in the ALMA Charity Run contributed a total of €1,651, which was transferred directly to the Association in support of its ongoing work and future initiatives.
In addition, many participants in the Half Marathon and the other races chose to make an optional donation to ALMA during the registration process, further strengthening this collective effort of solidarity and social contribution.
In its official letter of appreciation to the Organizing Committee, ALMA expressed its sincere gratitude to all participants and supporters, noting that the funds raised will contribute to the development of its 4th Supported Living Residence in Palaio Faliro, a new facility expected to begin operating in 2027.
The year 2026 marks an important milestone for ALMA, celebrating 30 years of continuous service, care and support for individuals with autism and intellectual disabilities.
Today, the Association operates Day Care Centres, Creative Activity Centres, Supported Living Residences, a Protected Apartment, as well as sports, recreational and community-based programmes, helping people develop their abilities, strengthen their independence and participate more actively in society.
The Organizing Committee of the Poseidon Athens Half Marathon extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in the ALMA Charity Run 1 & 2 km, as well as to all runners who chose to support the Association through voluntary donations.
Every participant matters. Every contribution counts. Every step helps create a more inclusive, understanding and compassionate society.
For the sake of transparency and accountability, ALMA’s official letter of appreciation together with the corresponding receipt confirming the transfer of funds are published alongside this article.
Thank you for helping us transform sport into a force for inclusion, solidarity and positive social change. Together, we continue to prove that every step can make a difference.
